THE FRIENDS

Who are The Friends of Presqu’ile Park?

The Friends of Presqu’ile Park is a 100% volunteer organization consisting of over 230 members, people just like you, who share an interest in this beautiful resource.
We have a strong belief in the importance of sharing the valuable knowledge and experiences with both current and future generations.  Presqu’ile Park, with its unusual combination of diverse ecosystems and a myriad of intriguing historical events, is a special place in Ontario whose story needs to be shared.

Our Board of Directors is made up of 8 volunteers and 1 Park representative, all of whom bring a special dedication to our group.

What to we do?

The Friends of Presqu’ile Park raise funds through many initiatives that are then invested in projects to provide support to the Park for services, staffing and interpretive programs.  According to Ontario Parks, the Friends contribution over the last 21 years has been over $4 million in funds and volunteer hours.

The Friends are involved in Special Weekends, both historical and natural, such as: Winterfest; the Waterfowl Weekends; Warblers and Wimbrels Weekend; Canada Day; History Weekend; and Monarchs and Migrants Weekend.

We have helped with the structural and display requirements for educational or interpretive activities: i.e., the viewing stations; the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre; the Nature Centre and the many interpretive panels throughout the Park.

We have funded the Marsh Boardwalk and our volunteer building team did the construction of this very important project.

We have developed: trail guides, children’s activity books, flora and fauna checklists; butterfly books; the deer book and Identi-wheel.

Our fund-raising finances personnel to provide the educational and interpretive programs such as: the summer student interpreters; the many volunteer interpreters and hosting experts at NatureWorks; and the curriculum based Kids 'n Nature School Reach program.

How do we do all that?

We achieve all this through our fund-raising comprising: The Friends Lighthouse Gift Shop; Christmas at Presqu’ile Arts and Crafts Show; special events; personal donations; grant applications; corporate support; and gifts from charitable foundations.
