The Nature Centre (Yellow House) is located along Lighthouse Lane, just after the day use picnic area along the Lake Ontario shoreline. This building introduces visitors to the flora and fauna of the park through a number of displays, including dioramas of the forest and the waterbird nesting colony of Gull Island and High Bluff Islands. Most popular are the live examples of reptiles, frogs, fish and monarchs on display to help visitors understand the complexity of life found at Presqu’ile. Our hands-on Ordovician fossil display and diorama depicting life at Presqu’ile 450 million years ago is also a big hit.
The Nature Centre also maintains a library of field guides and other nature books. The public is free to consult these resources to help them in their exploration of Presqu’ile’s natural world.
The Nature Centre is open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily from the Canada Day Weekend until Labour Day Weekend.
Both of the visitor centres are staffed by enthusiastic interpreters who are more than willing to discuss the many special features of Presqu’ile Park with you, and hear your stories about the Park.
PS – we have a couple of new exhibits in the Nature Centre for 2009
-Insects
-Presqu’ile Hot Spots
-Alien Nation
-And a new video room
As well as old favourites like live fish, frogs and turtles.
